Is the era of using 40 mesh getting replaced with 10-15 mesh hail-nets for better light control (off-course using various shade-nets below the hail-net) in net-houses ?.

A 40 mesh will has a light transmissivity of 70% and air permeability of 50%, where as a

10mesh hail-net has a light transmissivity of 90% and air permeability of 70%.

Using a 10 mesh hail-net in combination with a retractable secondary layer of shade-net you have better control on light for both sunny and cloudy days. On rainy days, the humidity escape after rain is faster thus reducing the chances of fungal growth.

As long as bigger insects and birds are kept away from the crop, and good pest control practices, crop loss can be greatly reduced.

40 mesh can trap temperature thus increasing the inside temperature by a factor of 10 to 20% which is avoided in 10 mesh hail-net.

I see many berry farms are opting for bird-nets on the sides, rather than 40 mesh for the above mentioned reasons. The same applies for other fruits and vegetables too.
